Huangshan

Huangshan (Mt. Huang or Yellow Mountain) (map) lies in southern Anhui province, north of the town of Tunxi in the territory of the city of Huangshan (map). Huangshan is also described at Wikipedia and on the official website of Mt. Huangshan.

Huangshan provides the classic Chinese ideal of misty or cloudy mountains with beautiful rock formations and trees that appear in countless paintings, as seen in the next photo and scrollable panorama. Other famous rock formations are also found in Zhangjiajie in Hunan province.

Huangshan is well developed as a national park, including a series of hotels on the mountains (one is visible in the next panorama), several cable cars and stone paths with steps, as seen on a map extracted from the official website (cable cars are shown as double blue lines, paths in green and roads in yellow).

The next panorama gives an overview of the "plateau" of Huangshan at the center of the map above between the 3 cable cars.

From a cable car one can often see porters far below carrying amazing loads of supplies up from the valley to the hotels and other businesses; they can't afford the cable car. The porters also carry people on the steep paths in bamboo chairs, for a high price of which they only keep a small portion. Between jobs they relax near the bank on the mountain.

The tourist is rewarded with stunning views.
