Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Zhangjiajie
(map) is a national forest park located
in northwest Hunan province, near the town of Zhangjiajie
(map). The region is also described at
Wikipedia.
Zhangjiajie features unique pillar-shaped rocks surrounded by dense forest,
as seen in the following scrollable panorama.
It is properly seen in hazy or cloudy conditions.
Other popular rock formations are found at better-known
Huangshan.
To reach these sights may require an arduous hike up a steep well-paved path
in steamy weather, when the cable car is out of service.
Porters are available on some trails, like this one along a river.
One valley offers a little train as an alternative to walking.
This cable car rises among spectacular formations.
Photography in a crowded park with small lookouts is difficult,
especially if everyone wants to be in the picture!
A typical and delicious Chinese banquet caps off this visit in Zhangjiajie town.
