A picturesque "Water Town"

Zhouzhuang (map) lies amid a complex of lakes and waterways about 70 km west of Shanghai and about 25 km southeast of Suzhou. It is described at Wikipedia. Zhouzhuang is built like Venice within a network of canals spanned by arched bridges. It draws masses of tourists (mainly Chinese), but has quiet corners, as seen in the next 180-degree scrollable panorama and the following views.

A beautiful temple is reflected in large pools (map).

Arched bridges and waterside walkways appear at every turn.

We approach the more crowded part of Zhouzhuang (the scrollable panorama includes cormorants for photographic hire).

Vendors offer a variety of snacks, while a peek inside a home offers a glimpse of local life.
